[pisicaverde] [Fwd: Google owns everything created using Chrome]

Google's web browser made quite a splash yesterday, didn't it? Everybody was quick to download Chrome and realize its blazing fast speeds and neat new Omnibar. Apparently, though, nobody checked the License Agreement very carefully while they were using the world's coolest new browser. Somebody over at Tap the Hive, though, took the time out to go over Chrome's EULA with a fine-tooth comb and he found out some pretty interesting facts. Namely, that Google owns anything that you create using their browser. That really means anything from large, paid-for blog posts to your lowly Livejournal user. Straight from the source:

By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.

Why would Google do this? It's unlikely that Google is going to come calling every time your writing makes the front page of Digg (I mean, chances are that AdSense is already pulling in cash from your page), but it's only a matter of time until they utilize this clause if it remains intact, as is. Maybe it was just a little too much zeal on the part of Google's lawyers, or maybe they're after the cash that will certainly be generated by the open-source crowd that will be creating apps for the browser left and right.

Editor's Note: While what Gavin points out is true, I'd check out this post over at LifeHacker before getting too worried. There should be concerns about Google's license agreement, but things might not be as bad as they seem.
